MIC38C44YM: Precision Current-Mode PWM Controller for Demanding Power Designs

Image
The MIC38C44YM is a high-performance current-mode PWM controller designed for use in a wide range of switching power supplies. Manufactured by Microchip (formerly Micrel), it’s built for designers who need tight regulation, fast response, and reliable control in offline or DC-DC converter applications. This controller is part of the MIC38C4x family and is functionally similar to the industry-standard UC3844, but with several enhancements. It offers a fixed operating frequency (typically 100 kHz) , fast start-up time, and precise duty cycle control—capped at 50%, which makes it suitable for forward-mode converters and applications where half-cycle operation is preferred. Packaged in an 8-pin SOIC (YM suffix) , the MIC38C44YM integrates features such as under-voltage lockout (UVLO), leading-edge blanking, and slope compensation—all essential for stable current-mode operation. The totem-pole output driver is capable of sourcing and sinking current, which is useful when driving exte...
